sex & drugs.jpgFX continues its push for star-powered comedies today by ordering its Denis Leary comedy Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll to series. Leary wrote and created the show under his Apostle banner and will star in 10 episodes to air in 2015. FX productions and Fox Television Studios will produce. This marks Leary’s return to FX since his seven-season critically-acclaimed drama Rescue Me ended. “Our partnership with Denis and Apostle has been one of our most fruitful ventures, and this time our fans will see a different Denis,” said Fox Television Studios president David Madden. “As both actor and writer, Denis plunges into dazzlingly original arenas of dark comedy and, along with a stellar veteran cast, the results are just really funny.”

Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll centers around Leary’s character Johnny Rock, the lead singer of a legendary early-’90s band in New York City. Rock tries to get The Heathens back together in his middle age. The show will co-star John Corbett, Elizabeth Gillies, comedian Bobby Kelly and Elaine Hendrix. It will also enjoy guest appearances by real live rock stars. The show will shoot in New York City and feature original music. No word yet if the Amazing Spider-man actor, who sings edgy humorous songs during his comedy act, will write the music himself. Leary may not have led a series in awhile, but he’s been leaving his footprint around TV schedules. He executive produces, and guest starred on, IFC’s Maron and has his name on the USA Network’s EMT comedy Sirens. “I am extremely elated at the opportunity to once again be working with John Landgraf and the fine executive talent over at FX,” the comedian commented. “They have a great platform for comedy, an award-winning marketing team and an amazing new Nespresso machine in the conference room. Get this: it heats the cup!”
