There might be some beef at this year’s Emmys ceremony between comedy stars Ricky Gervais and Louis C.K. The two men are both nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series, both for their titular characters in Derek and Louie, respectively. Gervais appeared on Late Night with Seth Meyers Wednesday night and made quite the statement. When Meyers asked the former Office star if C.K. ever thanked him for roles in his HBO Special Out of England and feature film The Invention of Lying, he said, “I discovered that big, sweaty slob. I’ve done everything for him.” Gervais even mentioned appearing on the comedian’s low-budget tiny Emmy Award-winning FX series. Even though Shameless and Chewed Up were before all of the Brit’s ‘help’, he continued on, “He’s never thanked me. And now he’s trying to take my award.”
We’re sure it’s all in jest, though. The two friends have worked together plenty, including the HBO one-off Talking Funny in 2011. Louis C.K. has won four Emmy Awards, including one for writing in 1999 on The Chris Rock Show. Ricky Gervais has previously won two Emmys, one as a producer on The Office and one for acting in Extras. For Louie, C.K. is also nominated for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series, Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series, Outstanding Comedy Series. He received an Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series nod for hosting Saturday Night Live as well. This year Gervais is also nominated for…wait, no. Just that one. We’ll see what the Academy thinks on Monday Aug. 25 at 8pm EST on NBC.
