They reaffirmed their status as a powerful musical comedy force last year with the release of The Wack Album, and now The Lonely Island is headed to the bigscreen with help from Judd Apatow. Universal and Apatow, under his Judd Apatow Productions, will produce a comedy set in the music world, starring The Lonely Island, comprised of Saturday Night Live alumnus Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone, who were SNL staff writers from 2005 until 2011. Apatow just wrapped directing Trainwreck starring Amy Schumer.

The Lonely Island first gained popularity in 2009 with their song and video “I’m On A Boat,” which currently has more than 82 million views on YouTube; the song appears on their debut album Incredibad. The trio went on to release Turtleneck & Chain in 2011, which featured songs like “I Just Had Sex” and “The Creep.” But The Lonely Island is best known for music videos for “Lazy Sunday,” “Jizz in My Pants” and the now classic “Dick in a Box.”
