It’s official! FX has finalized the schedule for its late-night comedy series executive produced by Chris Rock and starring comedian W. Kamau Bell. Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell will premiere on Thursday, Aug. 9 at 11 pm EST. The show, which Laughspin announced in March, will star Bell along with other contributors sharing commentary and sketch comedy that dissects the topics that have long been the cornerstone of the San Francisco native’s stand-up routine: politics, pop culture, race, religion and the media.

Six half-hour installments of the weekly show will be shot in Brooklyn and executive produced by Chris Rock, Chuck Sklar and Bell. The show has been slowly coming to fruition since Bell received an unexpected phone call from Rock back in 2010, two months after meeting the superstar at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in New York City. Bell and collaborators shot a pilot last November, and FX officially picked up the series earlier this spring. We’re excited now to finally have this date to look forward to!

“I’m going to do the best show I can,” Bell told Laughspin in March. “I have six episodes to make a mark on Hollywood— or a scar on Hollywood. We’ll see how it goes.”

The premiere of Totally Biased follows the six-week run of another new series, Brand X with Russell Brand, which also tackles current events, politics through the British comedian’s eyes. Brand X debuts on Thursday, June 28 at 11:00 p.m. EST.

This is going to be amazing. Bell is hilarious and honest and does more than make you laugh, he makes you think. And I heard Hari Kondabolu is another writer for the show – and he is known for doing the same thing with his comedy.

    Television NEEDS this.

I’m SO EXCITED about this show!  I agree with “SF Comedy Lover;” if this TV show is anything like W. Kamau Bell’s painfully smart and hilarious stand-up, then it’ll be a great hit.  His work is so fresh and topical; and his observations about race and racism are nothing short of brilliant.

As as San Francisco comedy club regular, I am so excited to see W. Kamau Bell getting all of this attention and comedic freedom. He is an amazing talent, who I am always encouraging others to listen to and be aware of. If this show is anything like his stand-up it’s going to be topical and make you feel smarter, just because you understand the context of his jokes. I can’t wait for August 9th!
