Comedian Ron White may face charges for smoking on stage

ron_whiteGrammy-nominated comedian Ron White recently played a two-night, sold out stint in Bismarck, ND. Show number 2 featured a distinguished guest: a plain clothes policeman. Police were responding to a letter sent by an audience member of White’s first Bismarck show complaining about White’s smoking of a cigar onstage in the Bismarck venue – which prohibits smoking. The comedian was cited for “smoking in public places prohibited.”

Cigar smoking is a trademark of White’s persona and act… Does that warrant a pass for the Blue Collar Comedy Tour veteran? According to North Dakota news source KXNet, “The charges have been sent to the City Attorney for review.”

I am from ND and all I can say is that this happened because of ONE person who sent a letter. 95% of us are embarssed that this is happening and cant believe the BPD would go so far as to send an undercover police officer there. It makes me wonder why I still live in this state.

  • Gary

Ron should have put the cigar out in the cop’s butt-cherry. Send that officer out with the meter-maids.

  • Keyla

OMG people! He broke the law, he should get fined for it. And i am sure that he has enough money to pay. Plus he is a comedian! (shut up i no i cant spell) he can use this as a part of his acts!

Cindy… I only decided to leave a comment to tell you to stfu. Who cares about what education he has, its not like his job requires a lot of it.

  • Rod

    Girl, LET IT GO.
Get some help…ok, we get it. Not only do you not like him, you dislike him so much…apparently you spend all of your spare time reading, researching, etc. the mistakes, illegalities and shortcomings of his life…
God would you be bored if you ever get around to hating Jesus, Gandhi or Mother Theresa (apparently the only people with whom you want to share your ‘perfect planet’)…..

  • Cindy

Yea and Ron White did not pay his taxes for over 7 years. How many of you can do that? You have to follow the rules, but he does not? He’s not God, he just dumber than a fifth grader. After all he did not make it past the 9th grade. That information is publish and public fact! Like I said – Ron White is a jerk!

  • MarkC

That is stupid, but a great man once said, “You can’t fix stupid”. Ron should pay the fine and then make another million talking about it. I suppose in this day and age of the ‘offended’ they would have to haul George Burns’ ass off to tobacco jail.

  • Marlana

OMGosh…..Ron…..just pay the fine….and add it to your act!

  • Cindy

Ron White is a jackass. I bet they were trying to catch him smoking dope since he goes around telling everyone he does that out in the open and sticking his tongue out at any rules everyone else has to comply with. He is such an A-hole. That is one of the many reasons why I do not like his routine. If he would act like a normal person maybe he would do much better than what he’s has done so far. All the others have out sold him, got movie deals, etc. etc. Ron White, gets the crumbs. He gets what he earns.

ridiculous citation, but it’s their law…that being said, I’d fight it to hell and back

  • Chase Roper

I wonder if Ron could claim his onstage smoking as a “pyrotechnical” aspect of his show and just get whatever permit would be needed before his performance.

  • Mark

That’s retarded, it’s part of his act.

  • C

WOW! My question is.. 1st, if you know Ron White, and smoking bothers you, why are you going to his show. 2nd if it did bother you, why didn’t you just say something to club management. And 3rd… a plain clothes policeman “responded?” Are you kidding me? We are wasting money to put someone “undercover” to catch someone smoking on stage? I could have told you he was smoking on stage and I wasn’t even there! I can’t wait to see his next comedy routine. He is going to have a field day with this.

  • Fred

too bad they did not catch him smoking Pot. I heard he does that backstage.
Oops…forgot to say great post! Looking forward to your next one.

  • Stacey

I believe the officer was present at both performances. The letter was written back around April 17th. And, just to keep it funny, the police report (according to the article in the Bismarck Tribune) lists his alias. You go get em, Tater Salad!

    The original article:

too bad they did not catch him smoking Pot. I heard he does that backstage.

  • Ryan

please, really? i think anything that goes onstage is pretty fair game. maybe at most there should be a warning beforehand, but really? sending a letter? grow up.
