Embattled comedian Artie Lange has been away from his high-profile radio gig on the Howard Stern Show since he attempted suicide in January of 2010. He laid low for a long time. Eight months later he made his first public appearance; he did a short set at the Comedy Cellar in New York and went out — with a sober coach — for a family dinner the same night. Since then, Lange has been slowly and steadily popping up, doing guest spots at clubs around the city, including a Sept. 9 set at Gotham Comedy Club.

During Lange’s absence from the public eye, he was getting better in psych wards and rehab centers. He now has a deal with Fox Sports Radio to co-host a new talk show with friend and comedian Nick Di Paolo; the show is set to premiere Oct. 3 in a handful of markets around the country.

On Sept. 19, Lange surprisingly showed up to a live taping of Marc Maron’s podcast WTF at the Bell House in Brooklyn, NY. Di Paolo joined him. Other guests included comedians Nick Griffin and Joe Mande, public radio’s Ira Glass, author Elna Baker, poet Wayne Koestenbaum and filmmaker Morgan Spurlock (Super Size Me). The episode will post on Monday, Sept. 26, but Laughspin has an exclusive preview, wherein Lange talks about playing scrabble in one of the psych wards he was in during his recovery. Check it out below, and be sure to hit up wtfpod.com or iTunes on Monday to check out the full episode.
