James Corden will host the legendary Tom Hanks as his first guest when the Scottish comic takes over The Late Late Show on CBS next month. Craig Ferguson has already and is plenty busy with other projects. Since his departure, CBS has had a slew of (male) guest hosts including Judd Apatow, Drew Carey, Jim Gaffigan, Wayne Brady, Kunal Nayya and musician-turned-comedian-turned-back-into-a-musician John Mayer.

Tom Hanks is a friendly, popular– and importantly, easy– late show guest. It’ll be a solid first for the new Late Late Show guest who is fairly unknown to the American people. Corden has been getting peddled around by CBS to raise awareness, which was helped by his starring role in the musical blockbuster Into The Woods. James Corden begins his tenure on March 23.
