North Carolina resident Larry Darrell Upright had no desire to see Hillary Clinton as president. So after the 81-year-old died last week, his family used his obituary to urge the public to vote against her in the 2016 election.

“Also, the family respectfully asks that you do not vote for Hillary Clinton in 2016,” the obituary concluded. “R.I.P. Granddaddy.”Larry Darrell Upright

This Hillary Clinton sentence was actually his family’s idea. Larry Darrell Upright did not make any special obituary requests before his death, but his kids knew the staunch Republican would appreciate the gesture.

“We did this for him,” said his son Mike Upright. “He had nothing to do with it other than voicing his opinion time after time after time. We know he’s up there giggling right now. Just laughing out loud.”

Added daughter Jill McLain: “He was very passionate about politics and probably passed a little of that on, so it was natural for me to think about that.”

Unsurprisingly, the anti-Hillary-Clinton obituary  has quickly gone viral. Many who didn’t even know Larry Darrell Upright are expressing their condolences under the obit, which appeared on a funeral home website.

“I’m so very sorry for your loss-we’ve never met, but after seeing this on Facebook I thought I’d send my condolences,” wrote a man named Luke. “I will honor your departed by also not voting for Clinton & donating to a quality conservative candidate in his honor.”

Added William Cole: “While we are total strangers please allow me to applaud your entire family for the courage to carry on Larry’s firm standing and belief. You can rest assured that this Red Blooded New England Yankee will NOT vote for Hillary Clinton in 2016 or any election ever. May Larry rest in peace and may you all take comfort in knowing he is in a better place. God bless you all!!!”

But not all of these commenters have been swayed to vote against Hillary Clinton. And some criticized Larry Darrell Upright’s family for politicizing the obituary.

“I am sorry for your loss,” said Paul Gleason. “With that said, it’s a shame that you have turned your grandfathers death into a political stunt. I WILL be voting for Hillary, despite your wishes.”A poster named Jerry agreed: “”I’m sorry for you

A poster named Jerry agreed: “”I’m sorry for you loss, but to assume your loved one wanted you to spoil his respectful memory by publishing a political statement is stupid and presumptuous. I will be voting for Hilary Clinton and advise everyone I know to do the same.”
