Yesterday, we printed a few short excerpts from Saturday Night Live alum Darrell Hammond’s upcoming book, God, If You’re Not Up There, I’m Fucked: Misadventures In Stand-Up, Saturday Night Live, and Other Mind-Altering Mayhem (out Nov. 8). But today, we get an even deeper look inside Hammond’s mind and the early life he led that made him who he is today.

As we mentioned yesterday, the book will cover a great many things, including Hammond’s battle with alcohol and other addictive behaviors like cutting. In this CNN video interview, Hammond gets specific about these things, opens up about his abusive mother, revealing that “she’s done some things to me that cost me dearly.” He also touches on the time he spent in psychiatric wards and a lot more. It’s a sobering analysis of a great comedic mind. Please check it out and watch until the end, where he actually tears up talking about his father’s death.
